Do you reread books?

Do you reread books?

When I was a child, most of the reading I did was actually rereading. I had a cycle of a few favourite books that I read over and over, occasionally mixing it up with a different book from the library, or adding a new favourite to the cycle. Amongst these several favourites were the Harry Potter series, various Jaqueline Wilson books, Watership Down, Black Beauty (not sure what it was with me and animal books!) and a handful of others. These days, however, I can’t actually remember the last time I reread a book. I have such an extensive list… Read more »

Do you pick books at random?

Do you pick books at random?

Do you often pick up totally random books in bookshops? As in, books you’ve never seen before, or heard of at all, and know absolutely nothing about? Personally I tend to have a reasonable idea of what I want to buy when I head into a bookshop, or I at least have it narrowed down to a few. There are so many books on my TBR list that have been there so long that I try and stick to buying them, or borrowing them from the library so that I can make a good dent in that list. However, the… Read more »

I’m Dusting Off The Kindle!

I’m Dusting Off The Kindle!

As you can probably tell from the photograph, I’ve had my Kindle for a long time! If I remember rightly, it’s a 2nd generation Kindle, and seen as Amazon are now up to the 7th (not to mention the other versions such as the Paperwhite and Oasis etc.), I’d say it’s a good number of years old! However, despite having owned a Kindle for so many years, I find I barely read any ebooks. I had a phase when I first got the Kindle where I read a few, and now I’ve got it out of the bottom of the drawer it has… Read more »

My Latest Book Bargains

My Latest Book Bargains

I don’t know what it is at the moment, but I seem to have been getting loads of really great bargains on books, so I thought I’d do a quick post and share some of them. Whilst I’m still visiting the library regularly, thanks to my internet-less state I’m getting through books at such a rate that I can’t seem to get enough, and so I’m seriously loving spending so little on so many great books! So here’s the best book bargains I’ve found recently: The King’s Concubine, The King’s Sister and The Forbidden Queen by Anne O’Brien I’m a huge… Read more »

5 Reasons To Love The Library

5 Reasons To Love The Library

One of the things I used to love as a child was when my Mum would take me to the library on the way home from school. I would come out each time clutching a handful of books, which I would start reading as soon as we got into the car, and I would have devoured within days. I did every single one of the summer reading challenges (and completed them all, obviously!) from being around four or five, all the way up to my early teens (and still have some of the medals to prove it!), and had probably read most… Read more »

Three Books On My TBR List

Three Books On My TBR List

These days I seem to be absolutely flying through books. Gone are the days of my crawling reading pace (as I discussed in this post), and I think this is largely due to the fact I still don’t have any internet at home. My primary source of entertainment these days is reading and writing, and so it turns out having no internet is a pretty good way of being more productive (even if it is incredibly annoying!). I now have a couple of books that I still need to review (The Other Queen by Phillipa Gregory and The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater), and have copies… Read more »

How fast do you read?

How fast do you read?

As per my new blog schedule, I was due to post a book review on Monday, which is now a two-weekly event on my blog. However, when I finally got home from work on Sunday and sat down with my laptop to write my review I suddenly realised something…I had nothing to review. It has actually taken me over two weeks to read a book, a fact that gives rise to the question: WHAT THE HELL IS HAPPENING TO ME? Once upon a time I could devour even the thickest book within a matter of days – in fact the… Read more »

How does reading change you?

How does reading change you?

Recently I’ve seen quite a few ‘Books That Have Changed Me’ posts around the blogosphere, and I really love the idea that books and stories can change us in some way. I know that I personally have felt that certain stories and certain characters have really resonated with me, and in some small way have made me see the world a little differently. But this got me thinking – does reading itself change us? Being exposed to so many points of view and different types of people and places must surely broaden the mind in some way, and I’d really… Read more »

Are you a mood reader?

Are you a mood reader?

Recently I’ve been reading the latest book in Conn Iggulden’s ‘War of the Roses’ series, Bloodline. If you look back at my review of the first two books (Stormbird and Trinity) you’ll see that I absolutely loved them, and Bloodline is just as fast paced and intriguing…so how come it’s taken me over two weeks to get a little over half way through it? Every time I read it I find myself whizzing through chapter after chapter as I get more and more engrossed, but I find that I don’t often feel like picking it up and reading (which for… Read more »

5 Things That Annoy Me When I’m Reading

5 Things That Annoy Me When I’m Reading

When I was a kid, I could read practically anywhere. I would be too engrossed in my imaginary worlds to even notice what was happening in the classroom/waiting room/living room/car around me. These days not so much! Don’t get me wrong, I still love reading (which is pretty good seen as you’re currently reading my book blog!). It’s just these days real life seems to be able to puncture my imagination more easily, what with the stresses of work, reality of paying bills and all those other boring adult things I now have to do. Plus reading in the car… Read more »
