Life Lately #3

Life Lately #3

Life: It seems like so long since I’ve done one of these posts! Probably because whilst things have been pretty hectic recently, it hasn’t been for any particularly interesting reason. Work has just been crazy due to us being super understaffed, and I’ve been busy trying to sort out moving in with my boyfriend. Whilst it’ll be lovely when we’re all moved in and sorted, actually finding somewhere and dealing with all the boring, admin stuff is just such a pain! Not to mention Christmas is now creeping up on the horizon, which means I’m really going to have… Read more »

How do you stay inspired?

How do you stay inspired?

Recently, I’ve just been feeling so uninspired. I’ve only really been posting once a week on here due to my lack of motivation, and reading itself has seemed a chore at times. Plus my novel writing has yet again ground to a halt: it literally feels like every time I say ‘hey, my novel is going well!’, I’m bound to lose the plot almost immediately. I’m not even entirely sure what the problem is. Maybe it’s just because it’s been a stressful couple of weeks with one thing or another (job interviews, family stuff, life decision stuff, etc.), or maybe it’s… Read more »

Life Lately #2

Life Lately #2

Life: I’m back with another life update! Hooray! I guess the main news these last couple of weeks is that I joined the gym, and whilst that may not seem like big news to people who don’t know me in real life, it’s actually pretty crazy! Although I like nice countryside walks and things like that (basically, Pokemon Go-ing!), in terms of sport and stuff I am the least fit person ever, so the idea of me going to the gym was pretty laughable until this week. However, a new gym opened near me recently that’s only £5 a month,… Read more »

Are readers born or made?

Are readers born or made?

Back in college I studied Psychology as one of my A Levels, and one of the aspects I found most interesting was the idea of nature vs. nurture. I think it’s fascinating to think about whether the aspects of your personality are inset within you at birth, or whether you acquire them as a result of your upbringing and life experiences, and I’ve always personally felt it’s a combination of the two. For example, I’m one of three children in my family (I have an older brother and a younger sister…and I like to think I don’t suffer from that whole ‘middle child… Read more »

A Trip Up Mount Snowdon

A Trip Up Mount Snowdon

First things first: apologies for the simply AWFUL photograph of me above! Anyone who read my Life Lately post a couple of weeks ago will know that my friend and I were going to do a charity walk up Mount Snowdon, and let’s just say we had to battle the elements to do it, hence my bedraggled state! And thanks to that rogue raindrop for totally obscuring my friend’s face (although to be fair, I haven’t actually checked with her whether or not she wanted to appear on my blog, so seriously – thanks raindrop!). The walk was for a… Read more »

Life Lately #1

Life Lately #1

Lots of bloggers seem to do weekly or monthly updates on life, blogging and reading (I know the Sunday Post is a popular one), and as an incredibly nosey person, I always enjoy reading them! I kind of wanted to start doing some kind of update post myself just to share what I’m currently reading, and what I’m currently up to, but I’m neither interesting enough to have something new to say every week, or organised enough to set up a post on the same day each week. So I’ve decided to just do random life/reading/writing update posts in a… Read more »

Bookish Fashion

Bookish Fashion

Back when I was in high school, I was a pretty wild dresser. Emo fashion was in its heyday and I was a big fan, so I would commonly be seen sporting shredded jeans and stripey tights, not to mention band t shirts and brightly coloured ties (yes, I apparently thought I was Avril Lavigne). I don’t know what happened in the years that followed, but my sense of fashion seemed to calm down a lot and even slip into the mundane. I have always remained slightly alternative (I still have the crazy hair colours!), but my uniform had pretty… Read more »

It’s my second Blogiversary!

It’s my second Blogiversary!

I can’t believe it! Another year has gone by, and Boats Against The Current turns two today! When I started out blogging I was kind of doubtful as to whether or not I’d actually manage to stick with it (I’m a bit of a serial hobbyist!), so I’m pretty pleased that two years later I’m still going. I started this blog just after finishing university to have some kind of creative outlet whilst I wondered what to do next with my life, but it’s proven to be so much more than that! I’ve met some lovely people through blogging who… Read more »

What’s in a bookworm’s bag?

What’s in a bookworm’s bag?

I always see these ‘what’s in my bag’ posts on fashion and lifestyle blogs, so I thought it would be kind of cool to do a bookworm edition. Prepare for a long post though, because my bag of choice is generally a large tote bag, and I like to carry an epic amount of crap around with me! For ages I was switching between these two Penguin classics totes: But last week I bought this cool ‘Bad Luck’ print one from Redbubble so I’ve just switched to that. I was actually really impressed with the quality of this bag when it… Read more »

Are you an introvert blogger?

Are you an introvert blogger?

I’m a major introvert, and by that, I mean that I find being around large groups of people or people I don’t know particularly well absolutely exhausting. Unfortunately I work in a shop, and so I am pretty much forced to interact with other people for 9 hours a day (you can tell by the word ‘forced’ just how much I love that!), and so when I come home all I want to do is have some me-time, or spend time with people I’m 100% comfortable around (so my family, my housemate and my boyfriend…quite a select group!). In that… Read more »
