Life Lately #1

Life Lately #1

Lots of bloggers seem to do weekly or monthly updates on life, blogging and reading (I know the Sunday Post is a popular one), and as an incredibly nosey person, I always enjoy reading them! I kind of wanted to start doing some kind of update post myself just to share what I’m currently reading, and what I’m currently up to, but I’m neither interesting enough to have something new to say every week, or organised enough to set up a post on the same day each week. So I’ve decided to just do random life/reading/writing update posts in a… Read more »

Bloggers: Do you get ‘comment guilt’?

Bloggers: Do you get ‘comment guilt’?

As a blogger, I absolutely adore getting comments! There’s no better feeling than knowing that someone has connected with something you’ve written enough to take the time to respond and start a conversation with you, and I really do appreciate every single comment that I get. That’s why sometimes I feel bad because it seems to take me so long to get round to replying! I see some bloggers who get a lot more comments than I do who seem to get to them the same day, yet it can sometimes take me several days to get to all of… Read more »

It’s my second Blogiversary!

It’s my second Blogiversary!

I can’t believe it! Another year has gone by, and Boats Against The Current turns two today! When I started out blogging I was kind of doubtful as to whether or not I’d actually manage to stick with it (I’m a bit of a serial hobbyist!), so I’m pretty pleased that two years later I’m still going. I started this blog just after finishing university to have some kind of creative outlet whilst I wondered what to do next with my life, but it’s proven to be so much more than that! I’ve met some lovely people through blogging who… Read more »

5 Little Things I’ve Done To Boost My Blog

5 Little Things I’ve Done To Boost My Blog

With my second blogoversary drawing ever closer, I recently decided to really try and step up my blogging (probably because it’s about that time of year when my hosting fees are due – it makes me want to get my money’s worth!). Therefore I decided to make a few little adjustments to my blogging routine to try and keep things more consistent, and hopefully give my blog a little boost in time for its’ second birthday. And to my surprise, my little adjustments seem to have worked! Now we’re not talking about double the page views and hundreds of new… Read more »

How did you choose your blog name?

How did you choose your blog name?

One thing I’ve been trying to do more of lately is discovering and commenting on some new blogs. Whilst checking out some different blogs, the variety of wonderful and inventive blog names I encountered really got me thinking about the process of blog naming. Seen as my second blogoversary is looming, it would have been about this time two years ago when I was wracking my brains to come up with the perfect name for this blog. Whilst I was itching to get started, I knew that choosing my blog name wasn’t a process I should rush – I’d be… Read more »

How I’ve Survived 3 Months Without WiFi

How I’ve Survived 3 Months Without WiFi

OK, so maybe ‘survived’ is a little dramatic, but in this day and age internet access is considered virtually essential by most people, and that includes me! Yet somehow I’ve made it to almost three months with no WiFi, which would have been absolutely unthinkable for me a few months ago. And with no end in sight to my internet-less state, I thought I’d let you in on the secrets of how I’m surviving in the modern age without WiFi… I’ve read lots of books. OK, so I’ve always read a lot of books (that’s why I’m a book blogger… Read more »

Finding Your Place In The Blogosphere

Finding Your Place In The Blogosphere

This little blog is one in a sea of millions. Literally, millions. And I don’t know if it’s just me, but that seems like a pretty scary fact. After all, how is a person supposed to find their place in the blogging world when there are so many other blogs, and nothing is original anymore? The many blog advice posts you find around the internet always urge you to carve out your own niche, to be different, to do something new, but when I look at my own blog and ask myself what is special about it I often draw… Read more »

5 Things I’ve Missed About Blogging

5 Things I’ve Missed About Blogging

Recently, I’ve been pretty disconnected from the blogosphere: my new home hasn’t got any Wi-Fi set up yet, and thanks to my rapidly dwindling phone data I haven’t even been able to browse Twitter or Bloglovin much. In some ways having this enforced break has been quite nice, as it has definitely relieved the pressure over a period that is quite stressful anyway (moving house), but it has also consolidated my love of blogging. Being unable to post has been so frustrating and has definitely shown me just how much I enjoy blogging, so I thought I’d do a quick… Read more »

A Short Absence

A Short Absence

So, you may have noticed things have become a little sporadic around here in regards to posting (and answering comments in a timely manner!). The reason for that is that I have been pretty busy moving house this past week, and now I’m in my new flat it’s looking like we’re not going to have any Wi-Fi set up for a couple of weeks (I’m currently camped out at my mum and dad’s using their Wi-Fi to post this!). I’m going to try and post the odd thing (using my parents’ Wi-Fi again), but I thought I’d just do a… Read more »

Do you tell people about your blog?

Do you tell people about your blog?

Back when I first started my blog, I didn’t tell anyone about it. I set it up, started posting and never breathed a word of it to anyone else, and I really don’t know why. Oddly it just felt too weird thinking of people I knew reading it, even though they are likely to be the only people you can entice to read your blog at first, when the rest of the world doesn’t know it exists. Eventually after a few weeks, when I had got it looking how I wanted it and had a few posts up, I casually… Read more »
