NaNoWriMo 2014: Update 2

15/11/2014 Writing 4

National Novel Writing MonthSo, Week 2 of NaNoWriMo is almost over, and to my great surprise, I am still on track, having written 23,338 words as of Friday night. I haven’t written today’s word quota yet, but I’m hoping to pass the halfway point!

This week has definitely seemed like more of a struggle than the week before! By Wednesday it was seriously beginning to feel as if I was running out of steam, and I was struggling to write any words at all. I seemed to have lost all control of the plot, and felt like I was just rambling and nothing was actually happening.

So on Thursday I decided it was finally time to lay out a bit of a rough plot for the remainder of the novel, and even though my ‘plan’ is just a few bullet-points on an Evernote note, I think it has helped. I now have an idea where I’m heading, instead of just sitting down at my laptop every day and thinking ‘what now?’

Anyway, I’m now back on track (although I’m not sure I’ll really want to read back some of my aimless Week 2 ramblings!), and hopefully I’ll manage to keep it up for Week 3!

So how has everyone else’s Week 2 been?

You really should! I love how there’s such a community around it on Twitter and on blogs, because it makes it a lot more fun! And at least you have the whole year to think of an idea, so you don’t have to do what I have done and just make it up as you go along (unless that’s how you prefer to work!).

Glad you managed to get back on track, it can be so hard to get past that point when you run out of steam and just don’t know what to write anymore! Enjoying reading your update posts 🙂
