Life Lately #2

Life LatelyLife:

I’m back with another life update! Hooray!

I guess the main news these last couple of weeks is that I joined the gym, and whilst that may not seem like big news to people who don’t know me in real life, it’s actually pretty crazy! Although I like nice countryside walks and things like that (basically, Pokemon Go-ing!), in terms of sport and stuff I am the least fit person ever, so the idea of me going to the gym was pretty laughable until this week. However, a new gym opened near me recently that’s only £5 a month, so I thought it was worth giving it a go, and I’ve actually been really enjoying it (gasp!).

For one thing it’s not one of those really intimidating gyms – the idea of exercising in front of people has always filled me with a vague sort of horror, and especially when those people are super-fit gym freaks wondering what the hell I’m doing there! Anyway, this gym seems more accessible, and there’s a great variety of people who go from gym-freaks, to older people and even school kids and teenagers and people trying to lose weight, so it isn’t scary at all. I literally go, plug my earphones in and think about the latest thing I’m writing, to distract me from all that profuse sweating!

Speaking of writing, following my post a few weeks ago about my struggles to stick with an idea, I’m pleased to say I’m now ploughing on with the fantasy novel I had initially abandoned, and I’m determined to stick it out to the end. I tweeted the other day that I had passed 20,000 words, but I’m now just passing 25,000, which I’m pleased about. So far I have had no trouble keeping going and haven’t got blocked at all, so I have the horrible feeling that it’s coming. Especially as I’m now leaving the introductory section of the novel and am heading towards the ‘saggy middle’…here’s hoping I can keep my motivation!

Photos:

So I think I mentioned in my Snowdon post that I had been to Wales a couple of times in the last couple of weeks, the second time being when I visited Bodnant Gardens with my parents. I have been once before when I was younger, and it was every bit as beautiful as I remembered! I got loads and loads of photos (with my handy little camera!), so I’ve just posted a selection here, but I would really recommend it as a nice place to visit if you can.

Life Lately #2Reading:

Life Lately #2The biggest excitement in my reading life recently has been the release of Empire of Storms by Sarah J. Maas, and I posted my review (where I discuss my mixed feelings about it) a couple of days ago. I got the book on a Buy One Get One Half Price offer in Waterstones with This Savage Song by V.E. Schwab, which is what I’m currently reading. I’ve had A Darker Shade of Magic for literally months but still haven’t read it, so I don’t know why I have got to this one so fast!

Blogging:

My favourite posts I’ve written recently have been:

I feel like I have been so bad on the blogging front these past few weeks though, as I just don’t seem to be able to get myself motivated and organised. My posts have ended up being really sporadic, and I feel like it’s taking me so long to get to comments!

I literally just read a great post about organisation over on Pamela’s blog though, and it’s really motivated me to get organised, and seen as I have a week off work next week, I think I’m really going to try and get on top of things then (and keep working on that novel!).

So what’s been going on in your reading/blogging/general life recently?

Those photos are gorgeous! 🙂 I’m so glad you’re pushing through with your fantasy book; keep at it and I know you can get there!
I’ve been having a pretty crazy writing month. I entered a contest, and was rushing to finish the entry in time, and realized as soon as I submitted it that I had made a mistake! I’m pretty annoyed at myself, but at least I had good practice cutting down my synopsis from seven pages to two. 😀

Yeah, I’m definitely going to try and stick with this fantasy book and see it through to the end. Thanks for the encouragement! 🙂
Aww, that sucks that you only noticed that mistake afterwards! You never know though, maybe they won’t catch it, or they won’t be bothered if the rest is good enough? Either way, as you say it’s all good practice 🙂

Bodnant Gardens looks beautiful! I live in the US, but if I’m ever close by I’ll have to check it out.
Congrats on hitting 25000 words in your book and good luck continuing with it! I’ve tried to write before, but I get so bored after a few hundred words and end up abandoning the project every time haha Maybe one of these days I’ll find an idea I like enough to stick with 😛

    • Laura

Bodnant Gardens really was lovely! You should definitely check it out if you’re ever in North Wales 🙂
Thanks! I have always had a lot of problem sticking with one project and not getting bored too, so I am really, really trying with this one to stick with it 🙂

Congrats on joining the gym! I’m glad you’ve found a good one that’s not too intimidating 🙂 And those are such pretty photos! I’m sure you’ll get your blogging back under control eventually. It seems like everyone has had kind of an off month or so recently. Just blame it on something in the air 😉

    • Laura

I really hope I get things back under control soon, but you are right, I have definitely seen quite a few people say they have had similar problems this past month. It must be something in the air! 🙂

Glad the writing is going well! Good luck with it going forward, that’s always a good feeling when the words are flowing. And don’t sweat the blogging too much- I think it comes and goes for most bloggers. 🙂

    • Laura

Thanks! It really is a great feeling when the words just flow easily 🙂
I think all bloggers do have their ups and downs, so I’m hoping I’ll be back on the up soon! 🙂

I’m so happy you’re making progress with your story! I had to start mine again, but I’m feeling quite optimistic about it. My beginning is still sketchy, but I am so in love with the concept I just know I have to finish this one or else I will forever regret it!

And thanks so much for shoutout! Again, I’M SO HAPPY I COULD HELP!

    • Laura

Good luck with your story! I’m sure it will be great, especially if you’re so enthusiastic about the concept. I’m sure that will carry you through 🙂
      You’re welcome! 🙂

Yay good luck with the gym. When I imagine myself working out in front of strangers, I get nervous so I stick to my dorm room. But your gym sounds really good and not intimidating at all.
I’m so happy that your writing is doing so well. 25 000 words is a lot!!! :O Haha I hate the introductory phase and now I’m in the middle of my story and I feel like I start to enjoy it. Hopefully, the block won’t come and you stay motivated. 🙂
Those photos are so beautiful!! 🙂

    • Laura

Yeah, I’m really surprised how non-intimidating the gym I go to is. I have always been too scared to go to a gym before this one! 🙂
The introductory phase is so tough! I’m hoping I won’t lose traction with the middle section though. Good luck with your own story! 🙂
