5 Things To Love About New Year

Happy New Year everyone!

Despite the festivities that generally accompany the start of a New Year, I personally tend to find it quite a depressing time of year. It signifies yet another year gone by, and often there’s that feeling of ‘how the hell is it that time of year again?’ and ‘where has all that time gone?’

It also doesn’t help that January itself can be a somewhat grim month, with the cold, wintery weather not even being offset by the excitement of Christmas on the horizon.

However, there are also a lot of positives to starting a New Year, as in a sense you can wipe the slate clean and begin again, and that’s very refreshing.

So here are five things to look forward to at New Year:

  • A fresh start!

New Year’s resolutions are such a strong tradition for a reason: what better time to start again and try and achieve your goals than with one year behind you and another stretched out ahead? It can be a very freeing feeling to have a chance to start over, and the New Year is a great time to review your life, decide what needs to change and do it.

  • Looking forward!

Whether you have some big life event coming up in 2017, like your wedding, the birth of your child or your graduation, or even a smaller event like a holiday, there are so many things to look forward to at the start of the year! When the weather is cold, and you’re still feeling the after-effects of Christmas on your purse, it can really help to think of the year ahead, and try and concentrate on the things you’re really looking forward to.

  • A new diary!

So this one isn’t quite as deep as the first two, but if new stationary is what it takes to get you excited about the New Year then who cares (it sure works for me!). Plus there is something satisfying about getting a brand new diary and being able to start filling out all those things you plan to do in the New Year!

  • Sales, sales and more sales!

What better way to fight those January blues than with a few bargains? January is a great time for sales, which is great seen as it coincides with that time of year where we all need a little treat just to cheer ourselves up!

  • Getting excited about books (or films! Or games! Or whatever you’re into!)

Yes, this one is bookworm specific, and we get excited about books all year round, but the other day when I was reviewing my ‘best reads of 2016’ it got me pretty excited for all the books I plan to read in 2017. Not to mentions some exciting new releases that I’m looking forward to, mainly A Court of Wings and Ruin in May, and hopefully the third Stormlight Archive book in November!

So what are you looking forward to in 2017? What do you love (or hate!) about New Year?

Happy new year! I agree the new year can make me feel sad about another year gone by, but often it gives me a sense of positivity too and I like looking forward to a new year. And I always like the best books of 2016 type of posts and looking forward to another great year for reading. I already made some plans and goals for 2017 and it sure made me feel excited for the new year and what I hope to accomplish!

Happy New Year to you as well! Looking at the new year in a positive light is definitely a good thing to do, and I especially like to think forward to my reading year as well! 🙂
Best of luck with your 2017 goals! I’m sure you’ll accomplish them 🙂

I’m so glad for the New Year, but I agree- the weather here is quite grim usually in January and February and the next holiday is far off, so it can be a bit depressing this time of year. Still a new start is a good thing, and yes! New books and movies to look for lol!

A new start is definitely a good thing, so it’s good to look on the bright side, even if the weather is horrible!
And yay for new books and movies! They’re definitely something to look forward to 🙂

Happy New Year! I have stopped celebrating the New Year years ago, so it feels like just another day. It’s all good though. Many things to look forward to in 2017, but the closest thing would be Ed Sheeran’s new music this Friday :’) So excited to see him back!

Happy New Year to you as well! 🙂
I’m so out of the loop with current music I didn’t even know Ed Sheeran was releasing anything new! I really need to listen to the radio more! I hope you enjoy it! 🙂

Happy New Year! I love a good fresh start as much as I love new diary. It’s so tempting and full of promises and I get all excited about my resolutions. Hopefully I’ll stick to them. Also, I can’t wait for new book releases and sequels. 🙂

Happy New Year to you too! 🙂
I’m pretty excited about my resolutions as well at the moment, so here’s hoping we both manage to stick with them! 🙂

I feel a little depressed between Christmas and New Year too! I always get certain ‘blues’ and I start regretting life decisions, whether it’s work or studies. Right now, I’m overwhelmed by my end-of-semester studies, so you can imagine.
But I have to say that the “new year = fresh start” idea is always a kind of a relief for me, even when I don’t have specific goals. All I want this year is to do what I have to do, without adding too many new things. I’m for stability rather than big changes.
    Happy New Year!

I know what you mean, it’s always a time of year when I start to overthink everything too. I really hope your end-of-semester studies aren’t too stressful for you, and that they go well! 🙂
Stability sounds like a pretty good goal, so I hope you manage to achieve (or maintain?) it. Happy New Year to you too! 🙂
