I’ve now been book blogging for over five years, and I can honestly say it’s one of the best things I’ve ever done. As someone who is famous for taking up new hobbies and then quitting them weeks later, it just goes to show how much I’ve got out of book blogging, that I’m still at it!
So I thought it was about time I did a little ‘book blogging appreciation post’, and shared the things I consider to be the best about book blogging. So if you’re on the fence about starting your own blog, read on and get inspired! And if you’re already a blogger, I’d love to know what you think are the best things about book blogging.
Here are mine:
My absolute favourite thing about book blogging, is the incredible community around it. I don’t personally know many bookish people in real life, so I used to just read books and then have to keep my thoughts all to myself, because there was no one who truly understood my excitement. These days I can go on my blog and write a post ranting about how much I loved my latest read, or I can go onto someone else’s blog and see what they thought.
And the great thing is, that as well as having shared interests with you, members of the book blogging community are generally so nice! Yes, there’s sometimes drama, and there are of course a few people around who like to cause trouble, but personally I’ve found that most people I’ve met through book blogging (well…met virtually!) have been lovely.
Plus I think it’s so wonderful and crazy that there’s people all over the world that I can chat with about books! Blogging allows you to meet lots of new people who you would never have met otherwise, and form connections and friendships through books.
The book recommendations.
Another amazing thing about book blogging is all the new and amazing books you get to hear about. My reading horizons have expanded so much since I started blogging, simply because I found myself exposed to more different books than ever before.
I’ve found so many new favourite reads since I started blogging, and I feel like it’s made it a lot easier for me to choose books that I’m likely to love. Not only do I have other bloggers recommendations and reviews to guide me, but I’ve also got to know my own likes and dislikes better through writing reviews, and really thinking about what I do and don’t like in books.
The skills you learn and develop.
Book blogging is also a great way to learn new skills, and has helped me gain so much confidence in my own abilities! Not only has blogging regularly allowed me to develop my writing skills, but I’ve learnt so much about websites, web design, social media and networking. Not to mention the fact that writing reviews has helped me with my analytical skills!
It can help you become more confident.
Whilst I’ve learnt so many things through book blogging, I also feel like its helped me come out of my shell and feel more confident in myself. I’ve always been kind of shy and not very confident, but knowing that there’s this place on the internet that I’ve built myself, and that is an expression of the real me makes me so happy.
Looking back at my little blog makes me feel so proud, and I can’t wait to see how it continues to grow in the future!
So what do you think are the best things about book blogging? How has it helped you, or changed you?
