Camp NaNoWriMo 2020 Wrap-Up

Camp NaNoWriMo 2020 Wrap-Up

Well, Camp NaNoWriMo is over, and I didn’t win! I’m OK with that though, as I still managed a respectable 40,884 words of my 60,000 word goal, even after really struggling with this story. In my half-way post I said that I was going to have to rewrite the start of the book after going in the wrong direction with it, which I have thankfully now done! I copied and pasted several passages from my original draft (which I noted down and excluded from my Camp Nano word count), but I also completely rewrote a lot of scenes and thankfully,… Read more »

Camp NaNoWriMo 2020: Mid Month Update

Camp NaNoWriMo 2020: Mid Month Update

We’re halfway through July 2020 Camp NaNoWriMo, and wow is it going badly! I’d hoped to repeat my feat from April where I wrote 60,000 words in a month, but I’m already thinking it’s not going to happen. And it isn’t through lack of time…I’ve been spending so much time on this new project, but it has turned out to be such a struggle! I’ve literally never had so much trouble getting into a project before: I’ve now written 23,802 words of it (21,295 words during Camp NaNoWriMo) and am pretty much going to have to scrap it all because… Read more »

Camp NaNoWriMo 2020: Here I go again!

Camp NaNoWriMo 2020: Here I go again!

I’ve already done Camp NaNoWriMo this year, but here I am, getting ready to do it again! I was actually pretty successful back in April, surpassing my goal of 60,000 words, which I’m really proud of. The only problem is I now know that it is possible for me to write such huge word counts in a month, so I don’t really have any excuses to not meet the same goal this time! So I’m doing it again! I’m hoping to write 60,000 words in the month of July, but whether or not I can pull off the same feat… Read more »

I won Camp NaNoWriMo 2020!

I won Camp NaNoWriMo 2020!

Hooray! I did it! At the start of the month I set myself a pretty crazy Camp NaNoWriMo goal of writing 60,000 words in the month of April, and I’m so happy (and amazed!) that I actually achieved it! In fact, I technically surpassed it, having written 63,096 words in total. Since I’ve only completed the regular 50,000 word NaNoWriMo a couple of times, this is easily the best month of writing I’ve ever had. I was averaging 2,000 words a day, but there was three days during the month where I did no writing (one of them was my… Read more »

My Plans for NaNoWriMo 2018

My Plans for NaNoWriMo 2018

So tomorrow is the start of NaNoWriMo 2018, and I’m still a bit undecided as to whether or not I’m actually taking part! I’m about 60,000 words into my current WIP, and have been averaging about 1,000 words a day for the past month or so. My aim was to finish it by December, so I could leave it to rest over Christmas and begin editing it in the New Year. I always love doing NaNoWriMo, as the community aspect is very encouraging and I definitely enjoy the challenge (you know, aside from the parts where you want to tear… Read more »

Camp NaNoWriMo Complete!

Camp NaNoWriMo Complete!

Back at the start of July I wrote a post about how I was going to do Camp NaNoWriMo this July, but I was going to put a spin on it: instead of working on a novel, I was going to write 30,000 words worth of short stories. Well, 15 short stories later, I’m pleased to say I reached my goal! My 15 stories varied in length from 500 words to 5,000, and were about everything from fairytales and alien princesses to traffic jams and ghosts! It turned out to be so much harder than I expected, and I had known it… Read more »

I completed Camp NaNoWriMo 2018!

I completed Camp NaNoWriMo 2018!

Hooray! Another Camp NaNoWriMo comes to a close today, and thankfully I managed to hit my word count target last night. My goal this time was to add 30,000 words to my WIP, which was 58,000 words long at that time, and I successfully did this! I made it to 30,100 last night, which puts my entire manuscript up to 88,100 words. I’ve found the target of 1,000 words a day fairly manageable, although there was inevitably days when I struggled to fit it in, or where I really didn’t feel like it (I was occasionally only forcing myself to… Read more »

I’m doing Camp NaNoWriMo 2018!

I’m doing Camp NaNoWriMo 2018!

So, I’m at it again! I’ll be NaNoWriMoing again this April, although because this is Camp NaNo as opposed to the main event in November, I’ll be setting myself a lower target of 30,000 words. That’s 1,000 words a day I intend to add to my novel manuscript (currently around 58,000 words!), which I think is nice and doable. However, I am going to be having quite a busy month this month, so we’ll see how it goes! It’s my birthday on the 15th, and so I have a week booked off work, and am going to the Lake District… Read more »
