Happy NaNoWriMo 2017!

Happy NaNoWriMo 2017!

It’s here again! It’s that time of year when writers across the world come together with a single goal in mind: to write 50,000 words in 30 days! Yes, I question their sanity, and that’s saying something because I’m one of them! NaNoWriMo 2017 will actually be my third NaNoWriMo (not including Camp NaNoWriMo, which I did in April this year), and will hopefully be my second successful NaNoWriMo: I only managed 42,000 words in 2014, but I successfully wrote the whole 50,000 words last year. Whilst I am currently working on a novel, I’ve decided to start something completely new for… Read more »

6 Things I Learned From NaNoWriMo

6 Things I Learned From NaNoWriMo

NaNoWriMo 2016 is officially over, and I am absolutely over the moon that I managed to write 50,000 words in a month! However, as pleased as I am with that achievement, I think the most valuable thing I got out of it was actually the lessons learned, so I thought I’d do a post all about that! These are just the things I’ve personally learnt about myself and the best way for me to write, so I’m sure that whilst many people will have learnt some of the same things as me, others will have got completely different lessons from… Read more »

I’m a NaNoWriMo Winner!!!

I’m a NaNoWriMo Winner!!!

I’m going to keep this brief, as I’m excitedly, but exhaustedly typing this up at 11.30 pm on November 29th, but I’m officially a NaNoWriMo 2016 winner! Since the beginning of November I’ve written 50,009 words (to be precise) of my work in progress, bringing my entire novel to date up to 75,398 words, and I couldn’t be happier with that achievement! My novel is still far from finished, and I certainly can’t attest to the quality of it, in it’s messy, unedited state, but I can’t believe the progress I’ve made. As a relatively slow writer, 50,000 words in… Read more »

The NaNoWriMo Diaries: Week 3

The NaNoWriMo Diaries: Week 3

Week 3 of NaNoWriMo is over, and to my great surprise, I’m still on track! I thought this might be the week where it all went wrong, as I’ve had a lot on, but aside from a day at the start of the week where I fell behind, panicked madly and then caught up, its gone better than expected. In fact at one point I was a couple of thousand of words ahead of the target, but I quickly lost the advantage during a couple of busy days! Since the start of NaNoWriMo I’ve added 35,054 words (as of last… Read more »

The NaNoWriMo Diaries: Week 2

The NaNoWriMo Diaries: Week 2

Well, week 2 of NaNoWriMo 2016 is over, and we are now halfway through! Hooray! To my great surprise, I’m still just about on track: as of last night I had written 23,401 words, meaning I was just surpassing the Day 14 target of 23,338. Overall my novel is now 48,740 words, which makes it the longest thing I’ve ever written (my second longest being my last NaNoWriMo attempt which was 42,000 words)! It feels like it’s really starting to get tough though! I’ve written over 1,000 words every single day of November (balancing out the days I wrote less than… Read more »

The NaNoWriMo Diaries: Week 1

The NaNoWriMo Diaries: Week 1

We’re officially a week into NaNoWriMo 2016, so I thought I’d do a quick update post! Surprisingly, it’s been going pretty well so far. Not amazingly so – I’m not miles ahead or anything – but I’ve been managing to tread water, hitting the word count or above most days. The couple of days when I didn’t quite meet the full 1,667 words was balanced out by the days when I went over (Thursday was my best day – I hit 2,469!), so I’m officially still on track! As of last night I’d written 12,215 words (37,604 words of the entire… Read more »

NaNoWriMo Prep (and WIP Extracts!)

NaNoWriMo Prep (and WIP Extracts!)

November is on the horizon, and this year I’ve decided to try NaNoWriMo again! Hooray! Although to be honest I’m kind of cheating… Rather than starting a brand new novel for NaNoWriMo I’m planning to use it to try and write another 50,000 words of my currently stalled WIP. As I’ve already written about 25,000 words, I think this would take me almost to the end of the first draft (although I guess I don’t know quite how long it’s going to be yet?), and as a serial quitter it would be kind of a big deal for me to… Read more »
