Thoughts on ‘Kingdom of Ash’ and the End of ‘Throne of Glass’

Thoughts on ‘Kingdom of Ash’ and the End of ‘Throne of Glass’

Warning: Spoilers for the whole Throne of Glass series. So a couple of weeks ago I finished reading Kingdom of Ash, the final book in Sarah J. Maas’ popular YA fantasy series ‘Throne of Glass’. And wow, what a ride its’ been! ToG was one of the first series I discovered through blogging, and it really hooked me on YA, which is not a genre I read very much when I was actually a teenager. I don’t often read new releases, but Sarah J. Maas’ books are some of the few I try and get to as soon as they come out, which just… Read more »

Mini Reviews: ‘A Court of Frost and Starlight’ and ‘The Rose and the Dagger’

Mini Reviews: ‘A Court of Frost and Starlight’ and ‘The Rose and the Dagger’

Yay for new Sarah J. Maas releases! Even though this one was a novella, and so wasn’t quite as satisfying as the longer books, I still really enjoyed it! I also read The Rose and the Dagger a while ago, and thought I’d review that, although I unfortunately didn’t enjoy it quite as much as The Wrath and the Dawn. A Court of Frost and Starlight by Sarah J. Maas ‘Stars flickered around us, sweet darkness sweeping in. As if we were the only souls in a galaxy.’ A Court of Frost and Starlight catches up with Feyre and her friends and family a few… Read more »

My Best Reads of 2017

My Best Reads of 2017

It seems like just yesterday I was writing my ‘Best of 2016’ post and bemoaning what had globally been a terrible year, and here we are again! 2017 is rapidly drawing to a close, and whilst I wouldn’t say it’s been a great year worldwide (Donald Trump is still president, Brexit is still in progress and there has been a horrible spate of terrorist attacks and disasters), it’s been a reasonable year for me personally. Nothing groundbreaking happened, but nothing too terrible either. And as for reading: well 2017 has been a fantastic year! This has been the first year… Read more »

Mini Reviews: ‘A Darker Shade of Magic’ and ‘A Court of Wings and Ruin’

Mini Reviews: ‘A Darker Shade of Magic’ and ‘A Court of Wings and Ruin’

A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab “Sure I do,” countered Lila cheerfully. “There’s Dull London, Kell London, Creepy London, and Dead London,” she recited, ticking them off on her fingers. “See? I’m a fast learner.” Kell is one of only two people with the ability to travel between parallel universes and the three different Londons: the dull, magicless Grey London, the enchanting, magical Red London, and the bleak, desperate White London. Because of his rare abilities he acts as an official messenger between the different Londons, but unofficially he is a smuggler, a hobby that gets him into a… Read more »

Review: Empire of Storms by Sarah J. Maas

Review: Empire of Storms by Sarah J. Maas

‘Aelin Galathynius, Queen of Terrasen, knew the time would soon come to prove just how much she’d bleed for Erilea.’ Warning: Spoilers!  As a big-time fan of the Throne of Glass series, I was super excited for the release of Empire of Storms! I bought it on release day and began devouring it pretty much as soon as I got home from work later that day. However, now I’ve finished it, I do have some slightly mixed thoughts on it. In many ways it’s my favourite book of the entire series, and in others it’s my least favourite. Therefore I thought the best way of… Read more »

3 Books I’m Anxiously Awaiting

3 Books I’m Anxiously Awaiting

Oddly for a book blogger, I don’t read too many new releases. In fact I always seem to be hopelessly behind the times, only reading a book that has been really popular a year or so after every one else (and I’m exactly the same with TV shows – I’m finally making my way through ‘Breaking Bad’ right now, a good 3 years after everyone else!). However, there are a few books I’ll definitely be reading as soon as they come out, and they’re all books in series I’ve absolutely adored! For the most part I prefer reading series that are… Read more »

My Top Ten Sarah J. Maas Characters

My Top Ten Sarah J. Maas Characters

Warning: This post will contain spoilers for most of the currently released Sarah J. Maas books, so don’t read on if you haven’t read them and don’t want them spoilt! I’ve previously done lists of my top ten A Song of Ice and Fire and Harry Potter characters, so I thought it was time to do a list of my favourite Sarah J. Maas characters, seen as she’s one of my favourite authors (yep, I’m a book blogger cliche!). I just recently finished reading the Throne of Glass prequel novellas Assassin’s Blade, so this list includes characters from that, the Throne… Read more »

Review: A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas

Review: A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas

‘I smelled jasmine first – then saw stars. A sea of stars flickering beyond glowing pillars of moonstone that framed the sweeping view of endless snowcapped mountains. “Welcome to the Night Court,” was all Rhys said.’ Warning: Contains some minor spoilers (sorry, I couldn’t help it!). It’s no secret that I’m a huge fan of Sarah J. Maas’ books, but the jist of my review of A Court of Thorns and Roses over a year ago was that it was OK, but would never live up to the Throne of Glass series. Well, things just got complicated…I loved A Court… Read more »

Review: Queen of Shadows by Sarah J. Maas

Review: Queen of Shadows by Sarah J. Maas

‘A queen – a raging and fiery and perhaps more than a little cruel – had found him tonight…Despite the dirt and blood on her, Aelin’s face was tan and flushed with colour, and – different. Older, as if the stillness and power she radiated had honed not just her soul but also the very shape of her.’ Warning: Spoilers When the long-awaited fourth Throne of Glass book was released and the flood of reviews started coming in, it’s fair to say I was a little worried. Despite the Throne of Glass books’ status as a hugely loved series in the… Read more »

Review: A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas

Review: A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas

“You can either die tonight or offer your life to Prythian by living in it forever, forsaking the human realm.”’ Warning: Minor spoilers. Considering my love of Sarah J. Maas’ Throne of Glass series (and you should check out my Heir of Fire review for some serious ranting about this series!) I was really excited to see her take on a completely different story, set of characters and world in A Court of Thorns and Roses. I was certainly curious as to whether or not I would like it as much as Throne of Glass, and whilst I don’t think… Read more »
