My 2019 NaNoWriMo Plans

My 2019 NaNoWriMo Plans

We’re now halfway through October, and NaNoWriMo is creeping up on us, which means I’m busy making plans! I’ve decided to be something of a NaNo rebel this year though, and am not writing a novel. Instead I’m going to attempt to write 50,000 words worth of short stories instead. Right now I’m not sure if it’s going to be easier or harder, as on one hand I have to keep coming up with ideas, but also I surely shouldn’t get bored with my project? I did sucessfully write 30,000 words of short stories for a Camp NaNoWriMo a while… Read more »

How To Prepare for NaNoWriMo

How To Prepare for NaNoWriMo

November is nearly here, and with it NaNoWriMo, the yearly event where us writers all go a little mad and attempt to write 50,000 words in a month. It’s an amazing event to take part in, but let’s face it: it’s hard. 1,667 words a day might not sound like a lot on surface, but every day for an entire month…that’s a lot of words, and a lot of time you have to dedicate whilst normal life goes on around it. I know from experience that it’s so easy to become derailed halfway through the month, and it can start… Read more »

Things I Love About Writing

Things I Love About Writing

Sometimes writing is an absolute joy, but at other times, it’s incredibly stressful. Seen as we’re currently in the midst of NaNoWriMo I’m going to wager that a lot of writers are currently feeling the latter…I know I am! I’d been keeping up with NaNo pretty well until yesterday when I had one of those days where I just really, really didn’t want to write. This happens occasionally, and shouldn’t be a big deal, but I’m already stressing about being behind, which is sapping my will to write even more. So I thought I’d do a little post reminding myself… Read more »

My Plans for NaNoWriMo 2018

My Plans for NaNoWriMo 2018

So tomorrow is the start of NaNoWriMo 2018, and I’m still a bit undecided as to whether or not I’m actually taking part! I’m about 60,000 words into my current WIP, and have been averaging about 1,000 words a day for the past month or so. My aim was to finish it by December, so I could leave it to rest over Christmas and begin editing it in the New Year. I always love doing NaNoWriMo, as the community aspect is very encouraging and I definitely enjoy the challenge (you know, aside from the parts where you want to tear… Read more »

3 Reasons To Set Writing Goals

3 Reasons To Set Writing Goals

I don’t know about you, but if left to my own devices I get nothing done. I’m a chronic procrastinator, and however much I love writing, when I hit a tough point in my project I’ll do anything I can think of to avoid sitting down in that chair and getting the work done. That’s why I’ve found that setting myself specific, measurable goals really helps me do more writing. I discovered this several years ago when I first started taking part in NaNoWriMo. Even though I failed the first time I did it, I managed to write 42,000 words… Read more »

Camp NaNoWriMo Complete!

Camp NaNoWriMo Complete!

Back at the start of July I wrote a post about how I was going to do Camp NaNoWriMo this July, but I was going to put a spin on it: instead of working on a novel, I was going to write 30,000 words worth of short stories. Well, 15 short stories later, I’m pleased to say I reached my goal! My 15 stories varied in length from 500 words to 5,000, and were about everything from fairytales and alien princesses to traffic jams and ghosts! It turned out to be so much harder than I expected, and I had known it… Read more »

Camp NaNoWriMo with a twist!

Camp NaNoWriMo with a twist!

I seem to have turned into a bit of a NaNoWriMo addict…I already did Camp NaNoWriMo back in April, where I wrote 30,000 words of my novel, and now I’m all signed up to do it again! I just find it a really great way to motivate me to write more, and although it’s tough, I really enjoy doing it. So I’m here again, but this time, I thought I’d mix it up a bit and do something different. Rather than working on a novel, I’m going to try and write 30,000 words worth of short stories! I’m not sure… Read more »

I completed Camp NaNoWriMo 2018!

I completed Camp NaNoWriMo 2018!

Hooray! Another Camp NaNoWriMo comes to a close today, and thankfully I managed to hit my word count target last night. My goal this time was to add 30,000 words to my WIP, which was 58,000 words long at that time, and I successfully did this! I made it to 30,100 last night, which puts my entire manuscript up to 88,100 words. I’ve found the target of 1,000 words a day fairly manageable, although there was inevitably days when I struggled to fit it in, or where I really didn’t feel like it (I was occasionally only forcing myself to… Read more »

Camp NaNoWriMo 2018 Update

Camp NaNoWriMo 2018 Update

So we’re half way through April, and halfway through Camp NaNoWriMo, so I thought it was about time I did an update on my progress! My target for this Camp NaNoWriMo was to add 30,000 words to my WIP, making my daily target 1,000 words. So far I’ve been keeping up with it, and my Camp NaNo word count was up to 14,275, as of yesterday (April 14th). I had already written 58,000 words of my WIP before starting Camp NaNo, which takes my project total up to 72,275 words. I’m pretty happy with this progress, although I’d kind of… Read more »

I’m doing Camp NaNoWriMo 2018!

I’m doing Camp NaNoWriMo 2018!

So, I’m at it again! I’ll be NaNoWriMoing again this April, although because this is Camp NaNo as opposed to the main event in November, I’ll be setting myself a lower target of 30,000 words. That’s 1,000 words a day I intend to add to my novel manuscript (currently around 58,000 words!), which I think is nice and doable. However, I am going to be having quite a busy month this month, so we’ll see how it goes! It’s my birthday on the 15th, and so I have a week booked off work, and am going to the Lake District… Read more »
