5 Happy Things

5 Happy Things

So the days are getting shorter, and there’s starting to be a faint chill in the air as Autumn creeps in. And as much as I love Autumn, I think it can make you feel a little gloomy when it’s pretty much pitch black outside by 6 o’clock at night, and you wake up in the morning to find it’s just as dark as last night, and your house is freezing cold. So I thought I’d do a bit of a mood-lifting blog post today, and do a quick list of 5 things that are making me happy at the… Read more »

30 Fun Hobbies To Try

30 Fun Hobbies To Try

It’s no secret that I’m a bit of a hobby maniac, or a ‘serial hobbyist‘ as I’ve previously referred to it, in that I just love taking up new, and often very random hobbies. I’ve tried everything from playing various instruments, to numerous crafts, and even sports (which for anyone who knows me, is pretty shocking!), and whilst a majority of them haven’t stuck, I think there’s just something really exciting, and even beneficial about trying something new. In fact, I personally think that hobbies in general are good for us, because modern life is so insanely busy that just… Read more »

My Top 3 Harry Potter Christmases

My Top 3 Harry Potter Christmases

Hooray! Christmas is nearly here! Not that I’m particularly excited about it right now – I work in retail, so Christmas is just shorthand for ‘stress’ as far as I’m concerned! But I’m trying to be less of a Scrooge and be more festive, so I thought I’d do a nice Christmas themed post, and combine it with some Harry Potter, just for good measure! Seen as each Harry Potter book covers a year at Hogwarts, each book features a Christmas and Harry and co. spend them in a variety of ways, ranging from cosy family get-togethers at the Burrow, to staying at school and even… Read more »

5 Magical Powers/Artefacts I Wish I Had

5 Magical Powers/Artefacts I Wish I Had

I read a lot of fantasy books, and as such have read about a lot of really cool magical abilities and artefacts. Some powers and artefacts are amazing to read about, but you wouldn’t really want to own/have them: for example, Aelin’s fire powers in the Throne of Glass series are impressive, but what on earth would I do with them in real life? Other than lighting candles (and I feel like Aelin’s level of fire power would be overkill in that case!) I don’t really need the magical ability to light fire and incinerate everything in sight. By the same token it would… Read more »

You know you’re a book blogger when…

You know you’re a book blogger when…

The photo gallery on your phone consists of two pictures of your dog and about a million of your books. Stacked, spread out, artfully heaped…you have photographs of your book babies in every imaginable pose! Books with ugly, unphotogenic covers just make you cringe. Yes, it’s shallow. But you can’t have ugly books ruining your blog or Bookstagram feed! You get a constant stream of rectangular shaped parcels arriving at your house. Maybe they’re ARCs, maybe it’s a book you won in a giveaway, or just your latest Amazon goodies seen as you have an ever growing TBR list. You have… Read more »

Series I Haven’t Finished

Series I Haven’t Finished

As a general rule, if I’ve enjoyed the first book in a series, I’ll be all over the second book almost as soon as I’ve finished the first. For example, the A Song of Ice and Fire books (the ones released so far, anyway!) were all devoured within a few weeks, one after the other, and I made short work of Raymond E. Feist and Janny Wurt’s Empire Trilogy and Brandon Sanderson’s Mistborn trilogy. However, I’ve also realised that I tend to start a lot of series and then never finish them, and often it isn’t a case of me not enjoying them, but simply that… Read more »
