The word ‘trope’ may have negative connotations, but I don’t necessarily think they’re always a bad thing… Fantasy, for example, is a genre that is often accused of being ‘tropey‘, but it’s easily my favourite genre, and in a lot of cases, I think the tropes are an integral part of it. A huge trope in the fantasy genre is characters who are royalty, and whilst it has been done over and over, I actually really love this fantasy stereotype!
