Is the future of reading digital?

Is the future of reading digital?

Recently I found myself browsing around on Spotify for some new music to listen to, and something random occurred to me: I haven’t bought an actual CD in years. This got me thinking about other things like TV shows and films, and how I haven’t bought a DVD since getting Netflix, and in turn, this had me thinking about books. Now, I used to be a steadfast member of the ‘physical books only’ crew, and totally rejected the idea of ebooks. I did buy the second version of the Kindle, tried it, and decided it wasn’t for me, and continued… Read more »

On Being A Kindle Convert

On Being A Kindle Convert

Years ago, I would never have thought this day would come…the day when I, Laura, would be singing the praises of an e-reader. Literally, since the release of e-readers, I’ve been resisting them. Despite their obvious advantages, to embrace a digitalized way of reading seemed like a betrayal against my beloved books. And books had been my constant companion since childhood: the feeling of paper beneath my hands and the smell of ink meant comfort, and wonder and joy to me. Reading words on a screen just didn’t have the same charm or same associations as actual books, and so for… Read more »

Your Thoughts On E-Shorts

Your Thoughts On E-Shorts

Recently whilst I was perusing Amazon for something new to read, I spotted a new trend: e-shorts. That is short stories written by an author, usually tying in with their main series, that are available to buy in ebook form for a small price (generally 99p, or equivalent). When I started looking into it, I saw that loads of authors have released e-shorts, even authors I’m a fan of and I hadn’t even known! Alison Weir, for example, has released some in conjunction with her Six Tudor Queens series, Renee Ahdieh has published a couple connected to the Wrath and Dawn series, J.K. Rowling has… Read more »

What would you pay for an ebook?

What would you pay for an ebook?

Ebooks and ereaders are pretty incredible things. It may have taken me a long time to get on board with them (and I do still prefer a good old-fashioned paperback!), but I’ve always been able to see how they’ve made reading more convenient, and books much easier to access. Being able to easily buy and immediately start reading any book you like from in your own home is literally the dream for us bookworms! However, one thing I have noticed is that whilst there are some amazing bargains out there in the world of ebooks, there’s also a lot of publishers who massively overprice… Read more »

I’m Dusting Off The Kindle!

I’m Dusting Off The Kindle!

As you can probably tell from the photograph, I’ve had my Kindle for a long time! If I remember rightly, it’s a 2nd generation Kindle, and seen as Amazon are now up to the 7th (not to mention the other versions such as the Paperwhite and Oasis etc.), I’d say it’s a good number of years old! However, despite having owned a Kindle for so many years, I find I barely read any ebooks. I had a phase when I first got the Kindle where I read a few, and now I’ve got it out of the bottom of the drawer it has… Read more »
