Life Lately #24

Life Lately #24

August is over, and September is here, and on the whole its been a fairly boring month for me. After the excitement of having time off work back in July, August has pretty much just been work, work and more work unfortunately. It’s genuinely been one of those months where I’m having to rack my brains for anything to report, but thankfully I have one interesting anecdote: My mum, my sister and I took my two nieces and my nephew to Blackpool Zoo on Tuesday, and we had a lovely day! Thankfully all the animals seemed to be out, and we… Read more »

How To Deal With Blogger Envy

How To Deal With Blogger Envy

Jealousy is an ugly emotion, but let’s face it: we’ve all felt it. It’s a perfectly natural emotion, which has only been intensified by modern society’s addiction to the internet. We spend our lives browsing through other people’s highlight reels – their beautiful holiday snaps and gushy enagagement announcements – and it makes us feel insecure about our own lives. And for us bloggers, who spend a lot of our time online, this emotion can be multiplied tenfold: perhaps you just read another blogger’s post that was so good you wish you could have written it, or they have a… Read more »

15 Blog Post Ideas For Writers

15 Blog Post Ideas For Writers

In the past I’ve done a couple of blog post ideas posts for book bloggers, and they’ve always proved popular, because let’s face it: who doesn’t need a little inspiration every now and then? However, since I also blog about writing, I thought it was about time I did an edition aimed at writers! So here are 15 blog post ideas for writers: Why do you write? Everyone has their own reasons why they write, whether it’s a form of therapy for them, a creative outlet, or it’s their lifelong dream to be a published author and share their stories… Read more »

Life Lately #23

Life Lately #23

July has been a pretty good month for me, mostly because I was off work for almost half of it! I had a full 2 weeks booked off, and it was so nice just to have some proper time to relax, get out and do some things and spend time with my boyfriend, friends and family. And thankfully the weather cooperated for most of it, and stayed nice and sunny! I spent a lot of the holiday at my boyfriend’s, and we ended up going on several really nice day trips. We went to the Liverpool World Musuem one day,… Read more »

My (Belated!) Fourth Blogoversary!

My (Belated!) Fourth Blogoversary!

So this post is actually a couple of days late, but the 20th of July was Boats Against The Current’s fourth blogoversary! Hurrah! Starting a blog and becoming a member of the wonderful online book community has been one of the best things I’ve done, and I’m so happy to still be doing this four years later. Yes, it can be a lot of hard work, but it’s so worth it to be a part of this community, and to have a place to share my thoughts about books, writing and whatever else is on my mind with loads of… Read more »

‘I’d love to read, if I had the time.’

‘I’d love to read, if I had the time.’

I’ve often found when talking to non-bookworms about my love of reading, they’ll come out with the statement ‘I’d love to read too, but I just don’t have time’, or something similar. And perhaps I’m being too sensitive, but I actually find this statement kind of insulting, and I’d love to know what other readers feel. We all have busy lives, but very few people have no free time at all, and what you choose to do with it is up to you. For example, on my lunch breaks at work, I choose to read my book, rather than chat… Read more »

Where did your blog name come from?

Where did your blog name come from?

July is here, and therefore it’s officially my blogoversary month! Hooray! On the 20th it’ll be four years since I started Boats Against The Current, and it’s got me feeling all nostalgic about my blogging journey so far! One of the things I’ve been thinking about in particular recently is my blog name, and how I struggled so much in the beginning with coming up with something I liked, and fitted what I wanted this blog to be. I struggled so much that I find it pretty surprising that four years later I still love the name I finally settled… Read more »

A while ago I wrote a post called 15 Book Blog Post Ideas, and it turned out to be one of my most popular posts ever. Life Lately #21

Life Lately #21

Is it just me who’s baffled by the fact it’s now June? Where has the year gone? How we are we almost halfway through already? May in particular has been quite a busy month for me, which you can probably tell from the scarcity of posts on this blog recently. Hopefully I’ll do better in June, but it could potentially be a busy month too! I was really happy to get to catch up with some friends I haven’t seen in a while this month. I met up with one of them for coffee and cake the other day, and… Read more »

How To Deal With Feeling Unmotivated

How To Deal With Feeling Unmotivated

We all have those days we had big plans for – we were going to write a blog post and a chapter of our novel, and clean the car – that we ended up spending in our pyjamas, binge-watching shows on Netflix. I mean, sometimes we have whole months like that because motivation can be a fickle thing. Sometimes you’re feeling it, and sometimes you’re just not. So what do you do when you feel unmotivated but have tonnes of stuff you need, or really want to do? Well, here’s a few tips for dealing with lack of motivation (something I’ve been… Read more »
