My Favourite Disney Songs

28/10/2019 Lists, TV and Film 8

Having young nieces and nephews has meant that I’ve got to watch and rewatch a lot of Disney movies in the past few years, and one of my favourite things about them is the songs (and I imagine I’m not alone in that!). They’re generally just so fun and catchy, and in the case of some of the older ones, laced with nostalgia.

So here are my favourites, and I’d love to know yours in the comments!

‘When Will My Life Begin’ from Tangled

Personally, I think Tangled is an incredibly underrated film. Whilst it’s popular, it’s nowhere near as big as Frozen or Moana were, but it’s so, so funny and heart-warming!

And I absolutely adore the opening song ‘When Will My Life Begin’. It’s just so wonderfully catchy and upbeat, even though Rapunzel is basically wondering when she’ll ever be allowed to leave her tower.

‘Shiny’ from Moana

Moana is one of the more recent films I watched because of my nieces (who absolutely love it!), and it has so many good songs. Somehow ‘Shiny’ is my favourite though, which might seem like an odd choice!

I just love the unusual beat, and how that crab is just so sassy (and shiny!)!

‘How Far I’ll Go’ from Moana

But of course, of the more serious songs in Moana, ‘How Far I’ll Go’ has to be the best! The vocals are absolutely beautiful, it’s catchy, and it really captures Moana’s longing for the sea.

‘Let It Go’ from Frozen

This has to be one of the most popular Disney songs ever, and for good reason. For one thing it sounds so beautiful and theatrical, but it also has a pretty uplifting message about letting go of the things that have held you back in the past. Only for most of us, it isn’t secret ice powers…

‘Do You Want To Build A Snowman’ from Frozen

Another incredibly popular one, but it’s just so good! It’s cute, it’s funny, it’s sad…this song has everything, and it’s just such a good transitional song in the movie, as you see Anna and Elsa grow up.

‘I Won’t Say (I’m In Love)’ from Hercules

Hercules was one of my favourite Disney films when I was a kid, and I feel like it’s another one that’s incredibly underrated. I feel like the song ‘I Won’t Say (I’m In Love)’ is also underrated, as it isn’t hugely theatrical, or even as catchy as some other Disney songs. It’s just a damn good song, and I love the story of it, with Meg denying she’s in love, and the Muses constantly chiming in.

‘Zero to Hero’ from Hercules

This is another great song from Hercules! It’s just so bouncy and jazzy, I defy anyone to listen to this and not at least have a bit of a shoulder shimmy!

‘I’ll Make A Man Out Of You’ from Mulan

Mulan isn’t a film I’ve watched many times (although I did actually go to see it in the cinema as a kid!), but I just really love this song! I love the opening beat, the grandness of the main chorus, and all the voices chiming in…it’s just such a great song!

‘Hakuna Matata’ from The Lion King

I mean, who doesn’t love Hakuna Matata? It’s definitely the best song from The Lion King, and is insanely fun, catchy and has a positive message. Plus it’s sung by everyone’s favourite characters, Timon and Pumba!

So what are your favourite Disney films, and favourite Disney songs? Are there any that you think are underrated (or even overrated?)?

So… I’m actually terrible about remembering whole songs. I know basically all the Jungle Book songs as we did that as a school play once and I was on the chorus so has to know the words to sing. I also crack out a good Lion Kind song now and then. And I can’t forget Aladin, I find myself saying a whole new world a lot and whenever I do I start singing that song. So maybe I do have favourite films for Disney songs rather than favourite songs. Can’t forget The Little Mermaid! I love Under the Sea.

I love the Jungle Book songs! I haven’t watched that film in years though, so
I may have to try and rewatch that soon. Aladdin is actually one I hadn’t watched until recently, but I really enjoyed it, and I especially loved the songs. And yes, Under the Sea is another good one!

I love the songs in Moana and Mulan! “Let It Go” is fantastic – I’m a huge Idina Menzel fan so that helps too. lol I think a lot of the songs in Aladdin and The Lion King are great – just classics. Disney music is great! I love when people do covers of them and change it up a bit.

I love when people do covers of Disney music too, and change it around. My boyfriend listens to quite a lot of rock covers of Disney songs, which are usually quite good 🙂

When Will my life begin is one of my faves too! And I basically adore the whole Lion King soundtrack. As for Hercules, all the songs but especially the two you mentioned! I also really like I Can Go The Distance. I have a special place for Bear Necessities and Part of Your World. My list could go on…

Yeah, to be fair the whole Lion King soundtrack is pretty amazing! I completely forgot when I was writing this post but I particularly love Be Prepared from the Lion King too!
And I love the Bare Necessities and Part of Your World too 🙂
