August is over, and September is here, and on the whole its been a fairly boring month for me. After the excitement of having time off work back in July, August has pretty much just been work, work and more work unfortunately. It’s genuinely been one of those months where I’m having to rack my brains for anything to report, but thankfully I have one interesting anecdote:
My mum, my sister and I took my two nieces and my nephew to Blackpool Zoo on Tuesday, and we had a lovely day! Thankfully all the animals seemed to be out, and we saw all the ones that are usually hiding, like the tigers, the wolves, the lions etc.
We also went into an area that we initially thought was some kind of butterfly house…turns out it was a tropical zone full of birds and adorable, little monkeys.
Or we thought they were adorable, until they swarmed one of our prams! At one point there was literally about four monkeys trying to root in my sister’s bag underneath the pram, and a monkey virtually on my niece’s shoulder! My mum was there pushing monkeys off (and my sister was screaming and crying!) and we had to practically run though the rest of the place pursued by tiny monkeys!
Plus we got chased off a picnic bench by a pack of feral seagulls and geese, so we really had a bad time with crazy animals that day!
This month I’ve read five (and a half!) books, taking my Goodreads total to 44 out of 60.
I started out with The Cows by Dawn O’ Porter which was a weird book to say the least! I’m still not sure what I though of it to be honest…the situations in it were just so bizarre and far-fetched, or such an amazing coincidence that it was hard to find any of it believable. Plus, for the most part, the main characters were very unlikable.
I then read Flame in the Mist by Renee Ahdieh which I really enjoyed. You can see my review here!
I then started my Harry Potter reread, and so far I’ve read the first three, and and am halfway through Goblet of Fire. I’ve already posted my reread posts about Philosopher’s Stone and Chamber of Secrets, and I should be posting my Prisoner of Azkaban post this Sunday.
I’ve been loving rereading the series so far, and I’m especially looking forward to getting to Order of the Phoenix which has always been a favourite of mine!
This month hasn’t been super productive novel-writing wise, as I’ve just been steadily chipping away at it.
I have started to revise some of my short stories from Camp NaNoWriMo, and I’m actually going to be entering the Write Practice Fall short story competition this month. I’ve been a member of the Write Practice writing community for a while, so I get free entry to the competition and thought it would be fun to try!
I haven’t watched a whole lot this month, although my boyfriend and I did go to the cinema last Saturday.
We finally went to see ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp’, and I really enjoyed it! I know there have been some mixed reviews of it, but personally I thought it was really funny, and I loved the cool action scenes you get with the characters constantly shrinking and growing.
This month I’ve been listening to a lot of music, and I’ve definitely been tending towards heavier stuff for the most part. Although I have randomly rediscovered my love of Panic! At The Disco too!
Some of my recent favourites include:
- ’Snuff’ by Slipknot
- ’Du Hast’ by Rammstein
- ‘Jekyll and Hyde’ by Five Finger Death Punch
- ‘The Only Difference Between Martyrdom and Suicide Is Press Coverage’ by Panic! At The Disco
- ‘LA Devotee’ by Panic! At The Disco
- ‘Emperor’s New Clothes’ by Panic! At The Disco
I’ve been trying to be more consistent with my blogging this month, and so I seem to have posted a lot more than normal:
