Hooray! I did it!
At the start of the month I set myself a pretty crazy Camp NaNoWriMo goal of writing 60,000 words in the month of April, and I’m so happy (and amazed!) that I actually achieved it! In fact, I technically surpassed it, having written 63,096 words in total.
Since I’ve only completed the regular 50,000 word NaNoWriMo a couple of times, this is easily the best month of writing I’ve ever had. I was averaging 2,000 words a day, but there was three days during the month where I did no writing (one of them was my birthday, so that’s my excuse!), but I thankfully managed to catch up.
In fact, one of the main things I learnt throughout the month was that it doesn’t actually take me as long as I thought to write 2,000 words (only about an hour!). Which is good, of course, but now it now means I have no excuse to slack off in the future, seen as it doesn’t actually take me that long to get down a significant number of words!
Let’s face it though, it’s certainly helped that this Camp NaNoWriMo has coincided with the UK’s COVID-19 lock down. I mean, other than playing ‘Animal Crossing: New Horizons’, what else have I had to do? But I still hope to keep getting down at least 1,000 words a day for the foreseeable future, because the end of my WIP is now in sight!
My WIP is currently at 102,559 words, and is thankfully now getting to the climax. I’d estimated this book would end up being around 100,000 words though, so it has been creeping longer and longer! Hopefully I can finish it in the next week or so though, as I have a couple of other ideas I want to start work on, and I want to let this story rest for a few weeks before I start editing.
And in the meantime, I need to learn how to edit… So any tips would be welcome!
So did you take part in Camp NaNoWriMo or do any writing this month? How did it go? What’s your current WIP about?
