5 Happy Things

5 Happy ThingsSo the days are getting shorter, and there’s starting to be a faint chill in the air as Autumn creeps in. And as much as I love Autumn, I think it can make you feel a little gloomy when it’s pretty much pitch black outside by 6 o’clock at night, and you wake up in the morning to find it’s just as dark as last night, and your house is freezing cold.

So I thought I’d do a bit of a mood-lifting blog post today, and do a quick list of 5 things that are making me happy at the moment. And who knows, maybe this could become a regular post?

So here are 5 Happy Things:

  • Waking up on your day off thinking you’re in work and then remembering that you’re not.

I genuinely don’t think there’s a better feeling in the world than waking up on your day off, momentarily thinking you have to get up for work and then realising that actually, no you don’t. I’ve been off work all this week and virtually every day I’ve woken up, thinking I need to get up and then remembering that actually I can stay cocooned in my quilt, and it has been heaven!

  • That glowing feeling you get after having been super productive.

Whilst most of the time I’m the queen of procrastination and not getting a whole lot done, I do occasionally have super productive spurts, and I love that nice feeling of accomplishment you always get afterwards. I really should try being productive more often!

  • Getting to wear whatever scruffy outfit you like in Autumn and Winter because you’re just going to cover it up with a big winter coat, or cuddly jumper.

I’m definitely not a dressed-up kind of person: as much as I would love to wear nice outfits and feel great every day, that takes effort, and sadly I’d much rather roll out of bed half an hour later than get up earlier to pick out an outfit and do my makeup properly. So colder weather is always a relief for me, as it means I can throw on my jeans and any old t-shirt from my wardrobe (however bunched up and crinkled it is!) because I’ll only be hiding it under my trusty blue-fur parka, or maybe my oversized skull cardigan. Plus, hats: I do love getting to just pull on a hat when the top of my hair goes all weird and fuzzy, which it always does the day after washing!

  • The feeling of cracking open a brand new book and getting that waft of inky, new-book goodness.

The coming autumn means bad weather, and bad weather means staying inside more, which isn’t exactly a hardship for us bookworms. Personally, I loved nothing more on a cold day than getting all snuggled up in a comfy chair and cracking open a fresh book…and I especially love the delicious smell of ink you get when it’s a shiny, brand new book!

  • Having freshly dyed hair.

All those hair chameleons out there can probably relate – there’s no better feeling than having nice, freshly dyed hair, especially if you’re like me and leave it way too long between dyeing, and spend a few weeks with really ratty, washed-out hair. It’s just nice to feel good about your hair, and I like getting that sudden shock of green every time my hair flips in my eyes (which is virtually all of the time!).

So can you relate to any of my happy things? What’s making you happy at the moment?

Waking up on a day off may be the best lol- kinda like saturday mornings. 🙂 And that after being productive feeling- I get that after writing something that I actually like and it does always feel good. Fun list. 🙂

Yes! I love it when I have been super productive, and then I just feel great about it throughout the entire day!

I also second you talking more about what makes you happy. I feel like the winter and cold gets us in not so great moods. And yes, the DARKNESS. Especially when waking up early in the morning and seeing that it’s dark at 7am 😛

I think the dark and cold really can affect our moods. I know it does for me, so I thought I’d try and look on the bright side with this list! 🙂

Some good happy thoughts, I am enjoying the fact that I can wear any old top and knowing I can shove on a comfy jumper and hide it. I do love the smell of a new book, though. And cracking the cover on a new book is great. Just opening to that first page is a great feeling.

What is making me most happy is making friends and seeing old friends because I don’t do that enough. And finally finishing books which have been sat on my shelves for far too long.

I love catching up with old friends too, and it is super satisfying when you finally read a book that you’ve had sat about on your shelf for ages! I’m currently in a phase of finishing up a few series I’ve been reading for ages, and I’m finding that really satisfying 🙂

What makes me happy these days is spending a free day thinking it’s the weekend, until I realise that it’s not! That’s because I don’t have any lectures on Thursdays and Fridays. 🙂 Although I often have to run errands and do house chores on those days, I appreciate the long weekend, especially when I manage to wake up early because that means I’m more productive.

I’m also enjoying the cooler days now, allowing me to go out for walks by the sea – a significant boost to my energy and motivation!

Long weekends sound good! I’m generally off work on Wednesdays and Saturdays, and I much prefer being off on Wednesday because everywhere is quieter in the week 🙂
And walks by the sea are always nice. I always feel more motivated after a walk too 🙂

It’s always nice to have some time just to chill and do nothing, but I do always find myself feeling guilty for not doing my writing…not that I let it stop me! 🙂

I LOVE the feeling of waking up and then remembering you can go back to sleep! The BEST! And being productive is a pretty great feeling too, I agree- or when you accomplish something you’ve worked so hard for, and you’re just giddy! This is such a fun and uplifting post!

    • Laura

I love that too where you finally accomplish something you’ve worked so hard for! That’s such a great feeling 🙂
