Week 3 of NaNoWriMo is over, and to my great surprise, I’m still on track!
I thought this might be the week where it all went wrong, as I’ve had a lot on, but aside from a day at the start of the week where I fell behind, panicked madly and then caught up, its gone better than expected. In fact at one point I was a couple of thousand of words ahead of the target, but I quickly lost the advantage during a couple of busy days!
Since the start of NaNoWriMo I’ve added 35,054 words (as of last night) to my work in progress, bringing my entire draft up to 60,441 words. It’s pretty crazy to think I’ve only got 15K left to reach the target, and I’m crossing my fingers that I can keep up my current pace for this last week and manage to win NaNoWriMo for the first time!
I’ve also started thinking about what I plan to do after NaNoWriMo has finished, as I think the book will be at least 30,000 words longer than the 75,000 words NaNoWriMo will take it up to. My plan so far is to try and keep up the pace with my drafting as best as I can during December, and hopefully have the first draft finished by the New Year. After that I’ll probably put the draft away for a couple of months whilst I work on something else, and then go back over it with fresh eyes for the first edit.
But that’s skipping ahead…the first thing I need to do is win NaNoWriMo! I’m hoping this final week goes well, and I hope all my fellow NaNoWriMo-ers are doing well going into the fourth and final week!
I hope all my fellow NaNoWriMo-ers have had a good week, and best of luck with week 4! Let me know how you’re getting on in the comments!
