It’s NaNoWriMo time!

It's NaNoWriMo time!

Well, it’s here! It’s officially the 1st of November, and the first day of National Novel Writing Month 2016, or NaNoWriMo for short. All around the world writers will be starting out their novels with the aim of reaching 50,000 words by the end of November, and this year I’m one of them!

My last attempt at NaNo was in 2014, where I managed 42,000 words, so I’m crossing my fingers that this year will be my year, and I’ll finally hit that 50,000 word target! Instead of starting a new novel I’m going to try and add 50,000 words to my current work in progress, a fantasy novel I’ve been writing for a while (which you can find out more about if you’re interested here). As it stands, my current word count is at 25,389, so by the end of November I’m hoping to have passed 75,389 words, which should be most of a finished draft!

I’m all stocked up on Diet Coke (as writerly as it is, I just don’t drink coffee…or any hot drinks really), my desk is all neat and organised (well…aside from the ridiculous amount of cuddly toys!), I actually have a plan this time…what could go wrong? I even have a spreadsheet that I’ve made to track my word count progress, seen as it isn’t going to be as simple as last time, what with me not starting from scratch.

It's NaNoWriMo time!

I’ll be posting weekly updates on here, so look out for those, and I’d love to know how you’re getting on if you’re taking part this year. Good luck to my fellow NaNoWriMo-ers!

So are you taking part in NaNoWriMo this year? What are you writing about?

I AM DOING NANOWRIMO TOO! I wrote 2037 words today and that is past today’s goal so I stopped there. plus need to study for tomorrow’s test. (not exciting at all)

Yay for NaNoWriMo! 2037 words is a great start! I did 1703 yesterday, and 1865 today, so it isn’t going too bad so far. I hope your test went well, and best of luck with NaNo! 🙂

Wait, you don’t drink coffee???? Maybe we can’t be friends anymore. 😉

Wishing you all the luck with NaNo and hope the Scrivener app helps you meet your goals. I’ll be following along 🙂

    Happy November!

    • Laura

Haha, I know! I’m a non coffee drinking weirdo! 🙂
Thanks! I’m hoping the app is going to help me out too.
Happy November to you too! 🙂

I’m going to attempt NaNoWriMo this year so good luck to the both of us. Your writing set up in fantastic! Your desk is much prettier than mine. Lucky girl!

Your desk looks ADORABLE!!! Also: no hot drinks for me, either! Don’t they seem “writerly,” though??? Sad that we don’t like them. 🙂

Ha! You sound like me… I too am working on a fantasy novel I have already been working on for some time.

Here’s to hoping we can finish these beasts!

    • Laura

Thank you! 🙂 And yeah, it really sucks that we don’t like hot drinks! I’d feel so writerly sat at my desk with some sort of writer themed mug!
And yay for fantasy novels! Best of luck with yours! I hope we both make it 🙂

Hey, Laura! This is one of the students from my Blogging 101 class. If you have a chance (I know you’re busy with NaNoWriMo), can you visit her blog and comment? She’d love you forever (and I would too–don’t worry, I already do).

      • Laura

This is one of your students? That’s awesome! Blogging 101 sounds like a fun class 🙂
Of course I can comment on her blog !

    • Laura

      Thank you! 🙂
I hope you have time to take part next year. It’s fun, but it’s definitely time consuming, so I can see why you would give it a miss this year if you’re already super busy.
Thanks so much for commenting! 🙂

Cute writing space – I’m sure you are going to churn out the words this time. Me? Oh well, ummm…..it’s 3rd of November and I haven’t written anything yet. EEP!!!!

    • Laura

There’s still plenty of time! I’m sure you can catch up 🙂
I’m up to 6027 words right now, but I’m still feeling enthusiastic about it at this point. I’m sure it’s going to go downhill fast once I’m a week or so in!
