Well, it’s here! It’s officially the 1st of November, and the first day of National Novel Writing Month 2016, or NaNoWriMo for short. All around the world writers will be starting out their novels with the aim of reaching 50,000 words by the end of November, and this year I’m one of them!
My last attempt at NaNo was in 2014, where I managed 42,000 words, so I’m crossing my fingers that this year will be my year, and I’ll finally hit that 50,000 word target! Instead of starting a new novel I’m going to try and add 50,000 words to my current work in progress, a fantasy novel I’ve been writing for a while (which you can find out more about if you’re interested here). As it stands, my current word count is at 25,389, so by the end of November I’m hoping to have passed 75,389 words, which should be most of a finished draft!
I’m all stocked up on Diet Coke (as writerly as it is, I just don’t drink coffee…or any hot drinks really), my desk is all neat and organised (well…aside from the ridiculous amount of cuddly toys!), I actually have a plan this time…what could go wrong? I even have a spreadsheet that I’ve made to track my word count progress, seen as it isn’t going to be as simple as last time, what with me not starting from scratch.
I’ll be posting weekly updates on here, so look out for those, and I’d love to know how you’re getting on if you’re taking part this year. Good luck to my fellow NaNoWriMo-ers!
So are you taking part in NaNoWriMo this year? What are you writing about?
