How Blogging Improves Your Writing

How Blogging Improves Your Writing

In my two and a half years of blogging, I’ve learnt so much about so many things: I’ve learnt how to use social media and Wordpress, how to design a blog, how to take and edit photos, and I now know what the acronyms TBR, ARC and DNF mean (vital life skills right there!). But more than anything blogging has allowed me to really hone my writing skills, which is pretty awesome seen as I want to be a writer! In fact I’d recommend blogging as a hobby to anyone who wants… Read more »

Life Lately #3

Life Lately #3

Life: It seems like so long since I’ve done one of these posts! Probably because whilst things have been pretty hectic recently, it hasn’t been for any particularly interesting reason. Work has just been crazy due to us being super understaffed, and I’ve been busy trying to sort out moving in with my boyfriend. Whilst it’ll be lovely when we’re all moved in and sorted, actually finding somewhere and dealing with all the boring, admin stuff is just such a pain! Not to mention Christmas is now creeping up on… Read more »

How do you stay inspired?

How do you stay inspired?

Recently, I’ve just been feeling so uninspired. I’ve only really been posting once a week on here due to my lack of motivation, and reading itself has seemed a chore at times. Plus my novel writing has yet again ground to a halt: it literally feels like every time I say ‘hey, my novel is going well!’, I’m bound to lose the plot almost immediately. I’m not even entirely sure what the problem is. Maybe it’s just because it’s been a stressful couple of weeks with one thing or another (job… Read more »

You know you’re a book blogger when…

You know you’re a book blogger when…

The photo gallery on your phone consists of two pictures of your dog and about a million of your books. Stacked, spread out, artfully heaped…you have photographs of your book babies in every imaginable pose! Books with ugly, unphotogenic covers just make you cringe. Yes, it’s shallow. But you can’t have ugly books ruining your blog or Bookstagram feed! You get a constant stream of rectangular shaped parcels arriving at your house. Maybe they’re ARCs, maybe it’s a book you won in a giveaway, or just your latest Amazon goodies seen… Read more »

Life Lately #1

Life Lately #1

Lots of bloggers seem to do weekly or monthly updates on life, blogging and reading (I know the Sunday Post is a popular one), and as an incredibly nosey person, I always enjoy reading them! I kind of wanted to start doing some kind of update post myself just to share what I’m currently reading, and what I’m currently up to, but I’m neither interesting enough to have something new to say every week, or organised enough to set up a post on the same day each week. So I’ve… Read more »

Bloggers: Do you get ‘comment guilt’?

Bloggers: Do you get ‘comment guilt’?

As a blogger, I absolutely adore getting comments! There’s no better feeling than knowing that someone has connected with something you’ve written enough to take the time to respond and start a conversation with you, and I really do appreciate every single comment that I get. That’s why sometimes I feel bad because it seems to take me so long to get round to replying! I see some bloggers who get a lot more comments than I do who seem to get to them the same day, yet it can… Read more »

It’s my second Blogiversary!

It’s my second Blogiversary!

I can’t believe it! Another year has gone by, and Boats Against The Current turns two today! When I started out blogging I was kind of doubtful as to whether or not I’d actually manage to stick with it (I’m a bit of a serial hobbyist!), so I’m pretty pleased that two years later I’m still going. I started this blog just after finishing university to have some kind of creative outlet whilst I wondered what to do next with my life, but it’s proven to be so much more… Read more »

5 Little Things I’ve Done To Boost My Blog

5 Little Things I’ve Done To Boost My Blog

With my second blogoversary drawing ever closer, I recently decided to really try and step up my blogging (probably because it’s about that time of year when my hosting fees are due – it makes me want to get my money’s worth!). Therefore I decided to make a few little adjustments to my blogging routine to try and keep things more consistent, and hopefully give my blog a little boost in time for its’ second birthday. And to my surprise, my little adjustments seem to have worked! Now we’re not… Read more »

How did you choose your blog name?

How did you choose your blog name?

One thing I’ve been trying to do more of lately is discovering and commenting on some new blogs. Whilst checking out some different blogs, the variety of wonderful and inventive blog names I encountered really got me thinking about the process of blog naming. Seen as my second blogoversary is looming, it would have been about this time two years ago when I was wracking my brains to come up with the perfect name for this blog. Whilst I was itching to get started, I knew that choosing my blog… Read more »

How I’ve Survived 3 Months Without WiFi

How I’ve Survived 3 Months Without WiFi

OK, so maybe ‘survived’ is a little dramatic, but in this day and age internet access is considered virtually essential by most people, and that includes me! Yet somehow I’ve made it to almost three months with no WiFi, which would have been absolutely unthinkable for me a few months ago. And with no end in sight to my internet-less state, I thought I’d let you in on the secrets of how I’m surviving in the modern age without WiFi… I’ve read lots of books. OK, so I’ve always read… Read more »
