30 Kindle Books I Own But Haven't Read

I’m a person who loves a good bargain, and that’s one of the things I love most about my Kindle: Amazon has monthly and daily deals on various books, meaning you can often snap up an incredible bargain!

I think this is amazing, but it’s also led to me having a huge backlog of unread books on my Kindle…like literally, there’s so many! Any time I see any book that I’ve even vaguely considered reading, I feel the need to buy it if it’s on sale, even if I won’t get to reading it for ages and ages.

So I thought I’d do a post sharing some (note the word ‘some’!) of the bookish bargains I’ve been hoarding on my Kindle for some time. If you’ve read and particularly liked any of these, let me know and then I know to make it a TBR priority!

YA

So YA is probably one of the genres I seem to be hoarding on my Kindle most…they always seem to end up in the monthly deals somewhere along the line!

  • One Of Us Is Lying by Karen M McManus
  • The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas
  • Shiver by Maggie
  • The Poppy War by R.F. Kuang
  • A Quiet Kind of Thunder by Sara Barnard
  • An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir
  • Ash Princess by Laura Sebastian
  • Renegades by Marissa Meyer

Fantasy

Regular fantasy books don’t seem to come up on the sales as often as YA, which is a shame (I imagine it’s probably because of the length of them though!), but I’ve still snapped up a few bargains that have been lanugishing on my Kindle!

  • A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness
  • Eye of the World by Robert Jordan
  • Elantris by Brandon Sanderson
  • The Heroes by Joe Abercrombie
  • Sorcerer to the Crown by Zen Cho
  • The Ninth Rain by Jen Williams
  • Malice by John Gwynne
  • Dead Until Dark by Charlaine Harris

Historical Fiction

I have quite a few historical fiction books on my Kindle I’m hoping to get to soon!

  • The Summer Queen by Elizabeth Chadwick
  • The Queen’s Fool by Philippa Gregory
  • The Boleyn Inheritance by Philippa Gregory
  • The Virgin’s Lover by Philippa Gregory
  • First of the Tudors by Joanna Hickson
  • Wolf of the Plains by Conn Iggulden
  • Longbourn by Jo Baker
  • Ross Poldark by Winston Graham

Thrillers

Thrillers books often come up on the monthly deals, so I’ve snapped up a fair few. I seem to read them pretty quickly though, so my backlog isn’t as huge.

  • Into the Water by Paula Hawkins
  • I Invited Her In by Adele Parks
  • Let Me Lie by Clare Mackintosh
  • Her Name Was Rose by Claire Allan

Literary Fiction

I have a couple of literary fiction books I’ve had on my Kindle for ages, but I can’t see me getting to them anytime soon… I have to really be in the mood to read literary fiction, and both of these will probably make quite depressing reading.

  • The Road by Cormac McCarthy
  • The Man In The High Castle by Phillip K. Dick

So are you a sucker for Kindle bargains too? Are you an ebook hoarder, or do you only buy them when you intend to read them? Which books off this list do you recommend I get to first?

    I am such a physical book hoarder and have such a backlog of those, I shudder to even think of the backlog that awaits me on my kindle, crying out for attention. Like, I know I have 75+ digital ARCs on there waiting for me, and that’s just ARCs – I KNOW there are a lot more that I just HAD to buy because they were too good a deal to pass up. x.x;;

I LOVE Elantris. I have a paperback of it and I am hanging on to it in the hopes that SOMEDAY I will make the time to reread it, because it’s that amazing. Ash Princess is sitting on my Kindle as well, waiting for me to read it, so if you get to it before me you’ll have to tell me if you love it. 🙂

    • Laura

Wow, that’s a lot of ARCs! I hope you get to them soon! It does get to the point though where you kind of don’t want to look at how big the backlog of books has got…I totally relate! 🙂
And I’m so glad you loved Elantris so much! I generally love Brandon Sanderson’s books, so I’m really excited to finally get round to reading it. You’ve definitely encouraged me to bump it up my TBR list.
And I hope you love Ash Princess! I’ll let you know what it’s like if I get to it first! 🙂

This is one reason why I’m glad I don’t have a Kindle – I’m afraid I would get too many e-books and I would never be able to remember or keep track of them all! I wasn’t crazy about Shiver, but I did enjoy Into the Water!

    • Laura

That is a problem with Kindles – you can’t physically see the books, so you do forget about all the ones you have but haven’t read. I can’t keep track of them all!
And I’m glad you enjoyed Into the Water! I’ll hopefully get to it soon! 🙂

  3. Aj @ Read All The Things!

I read THUG and liked it. I only use my Kindle for free books, and I try to stay away from those because I have no self-control, so I think I’m caught up with everything on my Kindle. I need to do something about my physical book hoard.

    • Laura

That’s great that you’re all caught up on your Kindle! I should probably keep myself away from the book bargains myself, because I definitely have no self control either. I have quite a physical book hoard too, that I need to get through as well! 🙂

Who doesn’t love a good bargain? I’m pretty sure I’ve got a few of these unread on my Kindle too because of good bargains. I always think I’ll get to it eventually and it’s one of the reasons I am cutting back on book buying, in general, to get my spending under control. The Hate U Give is such an amazing read, I strongly recommend, and I also loved An Ember in The Ashes. And with the sequel to Sorceror to the Crown coming out this year what better time to start reading that? It’s a bit dry… but I actually really enjoyed the writing in it. A Discovery of Witches was a really good series, too, but for some reason I’ve never gone back to read the third book. They are long books, I will say that.

    • Laura

I definitely need to cut back on my book buying too! Even though I only buy cheap books on my Kindle, I end up buying that many that it does end up costing me a lot. And I’m buying them way faster than I can read them!
I definitely feel like I need to read The Hate U Give soon! So many people seem to love it, and it just seems like one of those books I should have read by now. And I’m glad you loved An Ember in the Ashes! Hopefully I’ll get to it soon.
And I hadn’t realised that the sequel to Sorcerer of the Crown was coming out this year, so it does seem like a good time to read it. And I think that’s why I’ve been procrastinating A Discovery of Witches for so long: it’s a very long book, so it’s a bit daunting! 🙂

Out of the three Philippa Gregory books you have, The Virgin’s Lover was my favorite. The other two I thought were good, but not great. And I also read Poldark and was not a fan. Historical fiction is my bread and butter, so I thought I would love it, but it was a disappointment to me. And even though I haven’t read The Poppy War, I’ve head some great things about it!!

    • Laura

Thanks for the recommendation for the Philippa Gregory books! I enjoy most of her books, but there’s been a few that I thought weren’t great, so I think she can be a little hit-and-miss. It’s a shame you didn’t enjoy Poldark so much. I’d heard good things about the TV series but I prefer to read the books first, so that was the main reason why I bought that one when it came up cheap.
And I’ve heard great things about The Poppy War too, so I’m hoping I’m going to enjoy it. I hope you do too, if you read it! 🙂

Same! Most of the books in my Beat the Backlist Challenge TBR are obtained from one-clicking that Amazon bargain deals. You mentioned that you seem to read mystery thrillers pretty quickly so I would suggest that you bump up “One of Us is Lying”. It’s a 5-star read from me: charming characters and a detailed mystery. 🙂

    • Laura

Thanks for the recommendation! I’m glad you enjoyed One of Us Is Lying so much! I do tend to read thrillers pretty quickly, so I would probably get through it pretty quickly. I’m definitely bumping it up my TBR list! 🙂

    • Laura

I think that’s my problem too: I’m really bad at remembering to read ebooks. I still keep buying them though! 🙂
